Position Overview
Epic Systems is seeking a senior Technical Lead to support a federal cloud engineering and modernization effort for the Department of Homeland Security Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office. This individual will serve as the primary technical authority for the program and will be responsible for all technical work performed under the contract.
The Technical Lead will lead cloud architecture, DevSecOps implementation, systems integration, platform engineering, and secure cloud operations supporting a mission-critical environment. This role requires a strong mix of technical depth, leadership, and the ability to work effectively with Government stakeholders, engineers, system administrators, and cybersecurity teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary technical authority for the program
- Lead all technical work across cloud engineering, software/platform engineering, and systems integration
- Design and oversee cloud architecture supporting public, private, and hybrid cloud environments
- Produce and maintain system and architecture views, including OV-1 and SV-1 artifacts
- Lead DevSecOps implementation, including CI/CD, automation, orchestration, and secure engineering practices
- Guide system integration across cloud infrastructure, hosted applications, and supporting services
- Support the transition and operation of applications in and out of the environment
- Oversee technical selection of tools, platforms, and automation capabilities
- Ensure engineering consistency, scalability, reliability, and operational effectiveness across the environment
- Design and support backup, recovery, resilience, and disaster recovery approaches
- Work closely with cybersecurity personnel to ensure architecture and engineering align with accreditation and security requirements
- Provide technical leadership in resolving complex issues and responding to Government technical requests
- Maintain technical documentation and support the continuous improvement of the overall environment
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field
- 10+ years of experience in cloud engineering, software engineering, systems architecture, or related technical leadership roles
- Active Secret clearance
- Strong expertise in AWS and/or Azure
- Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and oversee complex engineering efforts
- Strong understanding of systems integration, architecture design, and platform modernization
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to operate effectively in a secure federal environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting DHS, DoD, or other federal national security programs
- Experience with FedRAMP High and/or DHS ATO environments
- Experience with Kubernetes, container platforms, and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience in multi-classification or high-security environments
- Cloud certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, AWS DevOps Engineer, Azure Solutions Architect, or equivalent
- Experience with infrastructure as code, orchestration tools, and cloud automation
- Experience translating technical architecture and engineering decisions into mission and operational outcomes
Key Personnel Expectations
- Must be a senior-level technical resource
- Must be available between 0800 and 1800 EST, Monday through Friday
- Must respond to Government technical issues or requests within 3 hours
- This is a key personnel role and replacement requires Government approval
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a senior cloud and platform engineering leader who can own technical direction end-to-end. This person should be comfortable leading architecture, DevSecOps, integration, and secure cloud operations while working closely with Government stakeholders in a mission-driven environment.
